Double Beds

A UK double is 4ft 6 × 6ft 3 (135 × 190cm). It is still the size most British couples start with, and it is the first width where two adults can sleep without perched shoulders — provided neither of you needs a lot of turn-space.

Why double remains the default
Bedding, mattresses and sheets are easiest to find in this size. The frame is wide enough for two, yet it still leaves room for two modest bedside tables in a typical 3-metre-wide bedroom. If you already own a double mattress, stay with this collection rather than stretching to king and buying everything again.
Almost the full adult range appears here, including TV beds and ottoman storage. Children’s doubles exist too, listed on the kids’ collection if you want those three models specifically. Compare 4ft 6 with the other UK sizes in the UK bed size guide.
When to move up to king
Move to 5ft if either of you is tall and restless, or if you share the bed with a small child or a dog at the weekend. King is 15cm wider and 8cm longer (6ft 6 rather than 6ft 3). That extra length is the overlooked reason people upgrade, not only the width.
Frequently asked questions
What are the UK double bed dimensions?
4ft 6 wide by 6ft 3 long (135cm × 190cm). Frame exteriors are a little larger; check the product dimensions if you are fitting the bed into an alcove.
Is a double big enough for two adults?
For many couples, yes. If you both sleep on the edge or want space to sit up with a laptop, a king (5ft) is the more comfortable everyday size.
Can I get ottoman storage on a double?
Yes. Double is available on the frames that offer a gas-lift storage base, including the TV bed models.
Is a double the same as a 4ft 6 bed?
Yes. A standard UK double mattress is 4ft 6 × 6ft 3, or 135 × 190cm. The assembled frame is a little larger than those mattress figures.
Should I choose a double ottoman or a blanket box?
Choose ottoman storage if you need the full mattress footprint as a void. A matching blanket box is enough if you only want spare throws at the foot of the bed.
